The Tegeler Schwerkraftmaschine is a high-end stereo mastering and bus compressor designed for engineers who want premium analogue compression with the convenience of modern recall. Built around a Vari-Mu compression concept and enhanced with digital side-chain control, the Schwerkraftmaschine gives you the tone, depth and musical behaviour of a tube compressor, while offering a level of flexibility that would be almost impossible in a purely traditional design.
The analogue signal path is central to the sound. Each channel passes through three transformers and four triode tubes, adding harmonic richness, density and presence before the compression stage begins working. The result is a processor that can make a mix feel more finished, more controlled and more expensive-sounding, while keeping the character smooth and musical. Low frequencies become more defined, high frequencies feel naturally rounded, and individual elements can gain a sense of placement and focus within the stereo image.
What makes the Schwerkraftmaschine particularly powerful is its range of compression modes. Instead of offering a single fixed compressor behaviour, it provides 11 different modes designed to cover a wide variety of dynamic responses. These include Vari-Mu-style compression, optical-style behaviour, more assertive diode and VCA-inspired responses, drum-focused compression, vocal levelling, de-essing and more complex programme-dependent modes. This makes it suitable not only for mastering and mix bus work, but also for drums, vocals, bass, guitars, stems and creative tone shaping.
The digital side-chain control allows the Schwerkraftmaschine to respond in highly sophisticated ways while the audio itself remains in the analogue domain. A flexible side-chain filter can be used as a low-cut filter from 0–300 Hz to prevent unwanted pumping, or as a tilt-style filter to influence how the compressor reacts across the frequency spectrum. This gives you precise control over the compressor’s behaviour without sacrificing the sound of the analogue signal path.
As with Tegeler’s other remote-controllable processors, the Schwerkraftmaschine is built for modern hybrid workflows. Every control is fitted with a servomotor, allowing the unit to be operated from the front panel, via its internal web page, or directly from a DAW plug-in. Settings can be saved and recalled with your session, with the physical controls moving automatically to the correct positions when a project is reopened. This makes it ideal for mastering engineers, mix engineers and hybrid studios where repeatability and recall are essential.
The Schwerkraftmaschine can also operate in dual mono mode via the plug-in, allowing the left and right channels to be controlled independently. Used with LR/MS and MS/LR matrixing, it becomes a powerful tool for M/S compression, giving mastering engineers further control over centre and side information.
From subtle mastering glue to colourful mix bus compression, vocal levelling, drum impact or complex dynamic shaping, the Tegeler Schwerkraftmaschine is an exceptional analogue compressor for engineers who want tone, flexibility and full recall in one serious studio processor.
