Sitting within Genelec’s Main Ones series, it combines the scale and authority of a large-format main monitor with the imaging precision and room-adaptive intelligence of Genelec’s Smart Active Monitoring platform.
At the heart of the 8380A is a three-way active design built around a powerful 15-inch bass driver and Genelec’s Minimum Diffraction Coaxial mid/high driver. This coaxial approach helps the midrange and treble behave as a highly coherent point source, giving the monitor exceptionally stable imaging, strong centre focus and a wide, reliable listening area. Whether used vertically or horizontally, the 8380A is designed to deliver neutral, uncoloured clarity that allows critical mix decisions to translate with confidence.
The 15-inch woofer provides the physical scale and low-frequency extension expected from a main monitor, reaching down to 29 Hz at -6 dB while maintaining the speed and control needed for accurate professional work. With high SPL capability and dedicated amplification for each driver, the 8380A can reproduce detail, dynamics and low-end weight without strain, making it suitable for medium and large control rooms where smaller nearfields may not provide enough scale or headroom.
As a SAM monitor, the 8380A integrates with Genelec GLM software for room calibration, level alignment, delay compensation and system management. This is especially valuable in real-world studio environments, where room acoustics, placement and listening position can have a major impact on monitoring accuracy. With GLM, the 8380A can be optimised as part of a stereo, surround or immersive setup, helping deliver a more consistent and trustworthy monitoring experience.
The 8380A also fits easily into modern professional workflows, with balanced analogue input, AES/EBU digital input and thru output, plus network control via dual RJ45 GLM connections. Its amplifier system delivers 500 W for bass, 250 W for midrange and 200 W for treble, giving the monitor the power and control needed for demanding production, mix and mastering applications.
