Each R-10 features a 2.5-micron aluminum ribbon element, capturing sound with a smooth frequency response and natural tone. The figure-8 polar pattern allows for versatile placement, capturing sound from the front and rear while rejecting side noise.
The R-10 handles high sound pressure levels, accommodating up to 160 dB SPL at 1 kHz, making it suitable for close-miking loud sources like guitar amplifiers and brass instruments. An internal shockmount and a multi-layered windscreen protect the ribbon element from vibrations and plosives, enhancing durability and reducing proximity effect.
A custom-designed transformer minimizes saturation, ensuring clarity even at high volumes. The open-grille design reduces standing waves and comb-filtering effects, maintaining the integrity of the recorded sound.
