The R12 makes it practical to test those choices while the arrangement is still flexible.

Work within a clear recording format

Audio recording uses 44.1kHz with 16-bit or 24-bit resolution. This is a conventional gain-setting workflow, so leave headroom for louder moments and check the strongest expected performance before recording. Choosing a consistent microphone position also helps overdubbed parts sit together naturally. Headphone monitoring allows you to hear the backing tracks without them spilling unnecessarily into a live microphone. Before an important take, confirm that the performer can hear a comfortable balance; a useful monitoring mix often contributes more to the performance than another layer of processing.

Four AA batteries support portable use, and the compatible AD-17 power arrangement suits longer fixed sessions. USB audio connectivity gives the R12 another role with compatible computer software, while recorded files can become the starting point for a larger production.
