The Royer R-121 redefined ribbon microphone design by combining the smooth, natural sound of a classic ribbon with rugged, modern-day durability. Its patented offset-ribbon design places the ribbon element closer to the front grille, allowing for higher SPL handling and improved tone from the front side — ideal for close-miking guitar cabinets, drums, brass, and more.

This unique design gives the R-121 two distinct sonic personalities: the front side delivers a warm, full-bodied tone, while the back side offers a brighter response. With a figure-8 polar pattern, the R-121 captures sound equally from the front and rear, while rejecting side reflections, making it highly effective for stereo techniques and isolation.

The microphone's 2.5-micron aluminum ribbon element, custom transformer, and absence of internal active electronics allow it to perform with ultra-low noise, excellent phase response, and outstanding realism.
