Royer Labs R-10

The Royer R-10 is a passive mono ribbon microphone designed to bring Royer's renowned ribbon sound to both studio and live sound environments in a compact, durable, and accessible package. Hand-built in Burbank, California, it offers exceptional performance with a smooth, natural frequency response and robust SPL handling.

At its core is a 2.5-micron aluminum ribbon element, capturing audio with characteristic warmth, detail, and realism. Its figure-8 polar pattern captures sound equally from the front and rear while rejecting off-axis noise, making it versatile for stereo techniques or isolating specific instruments in dense environments.

The R-10 is capable of handling up to 160 dB SPL at 1 kHz, making it an ideal choice for close-miking electric guitar amps, brass, and percussion. An integrated shockmount system and multi-layered windscreen protect the ribbon from mechanical vibration and plosives, minimizing proximity effect and enhancing durability.

A custom-designed transformer ensures high headroom with minimal saturation, even on loud sources, and the open-grille design reduces standing waves and comb filtering to maintain sonic integrity.
