Product overview
NEVE 8424 WITH MOTORISED FADERS · 24-CHANNEL ANALOGUE CONSOLE
Put Neve at the heart
of your studio.
Bring your DAW, instruments and outboard together around a console built for recording and mixing. The 8424 combines a Marinair transformer-coupled mix bus with 24 channels, four groups and up to 48 inputs at mixdown, putting a substantial analogue studio within arm’s reach.
Add touch-sensitive motorised faders, DAW control and Active Fader automation, and the console becomes a hands-on bridge between your analogue mix and your recording software.

THE ANALOGUE FOUNDATION
The character of Neve.
The flexibility of your studio.
The stereo mix bus uses voltage mixing through Marinair transformers, drawing on the architecture of Neve’s 80-series consoles. It gives the point where your tracks meet a distinct analogue identity, whether you are summing a DAW production or building a mix across the desk.
The channel circuitry takes its cue from the Genesys and 88R ranges, providing a clean, wide-bandwidth path into that mix bus. Choose where to introduce colour through your preamps and inserts, then use the stereo bus to bring the production together.
Shape the final balance.
The stereo mix section includes two-band shelving EQ, a width control and a balanced insert. Combine broad tonal adjustments with your favourite bus processor when the arrangement is ready for its final treatment.
Work in groups.
Four mono groups each provide a fader, two-band EQ, insert and direct output. Build drum, instrument or vocal balances, process stems together and route them back into the mix.

READY TO RECORD
Capture the idea
while it is happening.
Two independent 1073 microphone preamps sit in the centre section, with dedicated connections and Smart Routing. For instruments, two Class A DI inputs beneath the armrest make it easy to plug in at the console.
Two empty VPR-compatible 500-series slots let you add your own processing. Route suitable EQ or dynamics modules into the mix bus, groups, preamp or DI recording paths using the console’s Smart Routing controls.
For larger sessions, connect external microphone preamps to the channel line inputs. You can build the front end around the microphones, sources and recording methods that suit your work.
RECORD, OVERDUB AND MIX
Keep your connections.
Change your workflow.
Independent recording and DAW-return inputs allow 24 sources from each to remain connected. Switch the channel source to move between tracking and playback, and use the console’s dual-layer facilities when a mix needs up to 48 inputs.
Stepped, digitally controlled trim helps establish repeatable operating levels. Each channel has its own direct output for recording into your interface and a switchable balanced insert for external processing.
Your outboard, within reach.
Bring compressors, equalisers and effects into the channels that need them. The channel strips keep the core signal path focused on routing and level, with EQ on the groups and stereo mix and additional processing chosen by you.
A practical hybrid system.
Connect your audio interface outputs to the DAW returns and take the console’s mix, group or direct outputs back into interface inputs. Analogue audio travels through the console; your interface handles conversion to and from the DAW.

MOTORISED FADERS INCLUDED
Move between the desk
and the DAW.
Touch-sensitive, self-calibrating motorised faders bring physical control to your software mix. Switch between analogue and DAW layers while retaining the analogue balance underneath, or assign DAW control in banks of eight to combine both workflows on the surface.
Control the session.
HUI and MCU integration supports compatible DAWs including Pro Tools, Logic, Cubase, Nuendo and Ableton Live. Transport and automation controls stay within reach, while the 24 VPOT controllers can address pans, aux sends and plug-in parameters.
Automate the analogue mix.
Active Fader mode transfers DAW fader movements to the console’s analogue layer. Write and replay level rides from the DAW session, with the physical faders following the mix. The zero-fader function returns analogue levels to unity when required.
REVISIT THE SESSION
Get back to the balance
you worked for.
The onboard recall system stores console setups for repeat sessions. Routing and soft switches restore automatically, while the recall workflow guides the reset of supported manual controls. Motorised fader positions also return automatically.
The 8424 application lets you archive, rename and load console stores from the studio computer. Keep settings with the project, move between productions and return to a previous routing arrangement without rebuilding it from memory.
THE WHOLE SESSION, CONNECTED
Look after the artist.
Trust what you hear.
Cue mixes and effects.
A transformer-balanced stereo cue send and three mono aux sends support performer monitoring and external effects. Two stereo returns bring effects or additional line sources back into the console.
Dual headphone outputs beneath the armrest offer independent source choices. The three-way talkback and return-talkback system keeps the artist, engineer and producer connected.
Monitoring and metering.
Switch between three stereo loudspeaker systems with individual trim calibration. Dim and mono controls support everyday checks, while solo-in-place, PFL and AFL provide different ways to inspect a source.
Eight-stage LED channel meters show signal activity across the desk. Large assignable VU meters keep the main output decisions visible at the centre.
EXPAND YOUR RECORDING FRONT END
Eight, sixteen or twenty-four
more channels of 1073.
Add one, two or three Neve 1073OPX units, each providing eight microphone preamps. With three units, all 24 console channels can have a dedicated external 1073 preamp, alongside the desk’s two onboard preamps.
The 8424 can remotely control up to three 1073OPX units from the console surface, with gain and input-type information shown on its display. Add the channel count you need now, with room to expand for larger recording sessions.
Add up to three 1073OPX units with this console for £2,000 ex VAT per unit. Choose 8, 16 or 24 channels of remote controlled preamps. External preamps are optional additions.
