Product overview

The Genelec W371A SAM Woofer System in black extends a compatible The Ones monitor into a full-range system with greater low-frequency headroom and control. Designed for the 8341A, 8351B and 8361A, it helps you judge bass balance and dynamics with greater confidence, particularly where room reflections make the low end difficult to assess.

Low-frequency control tailored to your room

The W371A combines a front-facing woofer in a sealed enclosure with a rear-facing woofer in a reflex enclosure. Each has its own amplification and DSP. Their different positions give the calibration system more freedom to manage the cancellations and uneven response caused by nearby boundaries.

Placed beneath or close to its partner monitor, the W371A becomes part of the same calibrated playback system. It extends bass reproduction, increases output capability and preserves low-frequency stereo information, making it a substantial upgrade for mixing and mastering rooms using The Ones.

Three approaches to calibration

  • Complementary mode: GLM optimises the two woofers independently and chooses their crossover to achieve the smoothest combined response at the listening position.
  • Continuous Directivity mode: both woofers work together with a fixed crossover, providing a robust option in challenging rooms while extending directivity control into the bass.
  • Anti-reflection modes: steer reduced output towards the back wall, side wall or floor to lessen the effect of a problematic reflection.

You can compare calibrated modes using separate GLM groups and choose the result that works best for your room and listening position.

Integration and setup

Balanced analogue and AES/EBU digital connections suit a range of studio signal paths, with link outputs for the associated monitor. GLM measures and aligns the woofer and monitor together; suitable calibration hardware is required alongside the free GLM software.

Supplied as one W371A woofer system. Use one per compatible monitor, or two for a stereo pair. The main monitor is sold separately. Calibration requires a Genelec GLM Calibration Kit or a suitable 9320A-based measurement setup, sold separately.

Included

W371A in black, mains cable, 5 m GLM network cable, documentation and cable-management clips with screws.
