Rack power protection with voltage and current monitoring

The Furman PL-PRO DMC E is a 16A power conditioner for studio, stage and AV racks. Alongside mains filtering, surge protection and eleven IEC outlets, it adds a digital meter that shows either incoming voltage or the current being drawn by the connected system.

Bring a rack of equipment onto one switch

Connecting your outboard processors, interfaces, effects and other suitable devices to the Furman gives you an accessible master power switch at the front of the rack. The ten rear outlets suit permanent wiring, with a front outlet available for a temporary device. It makes the beginning and end of a session simpler, particularly when individual power switches are hard to reach.

The outlets switch together, so this model does not automatically stagger start-up. Turn monitors and power amplifiers on last and off first, and complete any computer shutdown before cutting its power. Equipment must support powering up when mains is applied for single-switch operation.

Check both the supply and your rack's load

The dimmable digital display switches between AC voltage and true RMS current. Voltage monitoring helps you identify an unusually high or low supply; current monitoring lets you see how much of the available capacity your rack is using as equipment is added or switched on.

The unit's 16A rating is the combined maximum, subject to the ratings of the supply, plug, lead and individual connections. A UK 13A plug connection remains limited to 13A; it does not become a 16A supply because the conditioner has a higher rating.

Protection and filtering with a clear purpose

SMP suppresses transient surges and spikes, while EVS disconnects the outlets during sustained excessive voltage. LiFT reduces high-frequency noise travelling on the mains, and isolated outlet banks help limit interference passing between connected devices.

Filtering can help where noise from other electrical equipment is entering through the power supply. It does not guarantee an audible change in an already quiet system, and ground-loop hum or faulty signal cables still need to be resolved separately.

Useful extras for everyday rack use

Two pull-out LED lamps with adjustable brightness illuminate the controls below. A rear BNC connection takes an optional gooseneck lamp, and the front USB charging port provides a convenient place to charge a compatible small device.

The PL-PRO DMC E monitors voltage and current but does not regulate the mains voltage or provide battery backup.
