One control for an audio system that needs to start in stages

The Furman CN-3600SE is a 16A power conditioner and SmartSequencing unit for studios, venues and installed AV systems. It combines mains filtering and protection with three sequenced outlet groups, remote control and the ability to coordinate multiple compatible units across a larger installation.

Make the correct start-up order easy to repeat

Once configured, a key switch, sequence button or remote control can start the system in a planned order. Source equipment and signal processors can come on first, followed by amplifiers or active speakers after the earlier stages have settled. Power-down reverses the sequence, helping keep switching thumps away from the speakers.

This is particularly useful in a shared studio or venue: the person opening up does not need to remember a long list of individual power switches. Adjustable stage delays also let the installation allow for equipment with different start-up times, while staggering the initial current demand.

Coordinate several racks from one point

Furman's SmartSequencing uses two-way communication between compatible units so a primary sequencer can coordinate secondary units. That makes it suitable for systems spread across several racks or rooms, where the correct order needs to be maintained across the installation.

RS-232 and remote terminal connections support integration with a control system. The front key switch provides On, Off and Remote positions, while configuration controls sit behind a security cover. Ethernet/IP control requires an optional compatible interface; it is not a built-in network connection.

Protection against spikes, interference and extreme voltage

SMP suppresses transient mains surges and spikes. LiFT filters high-frequency noise carried on the mains, which can help when electrical interference reaches connected equipment through its power supply. EVS disconnects the outlets during extreme undervoltage or overvoltage, with configurable automatic or manual recovery.

Filtering does not resolve every cause of audio noise: ground loops and signal-cable problems require their own diagnosis. This unit switches off during extreme voltage conditions; it does not correct the voltage or provide battery backup.

Choose which equipment follows the sequence

Six rear outlets form three sequenced pairs. Two rear outlets and the front convenience outlet are unswitched, remaining powered while a suitable mains supply is present and protection has not intervened. This is useful for control equipment that must stay available when the audio system is off.

Size the load to the supply and cable ratings as well as the unit's capacity; a UK 13A plug connection remains limited to 13A. Computers and other devices requiring a shutdown procedure should complete it before their outlet power is removed.
