The D.W. Fearn VT-5M combines passive LC equalisation with Class-A valve amplification in a dedicated stereo mastering EQ. It brings hands-on tonal shaping to a mix bus, mastering chain or individual track, with stepped settings you can return to precisely.

Shape the balance

Five sections. One musical result.

Add foundation with Low Boost, control excess bass with Low Cut, and clear space in the lower midrange with Mid Cut. High Boost and its selectable bandwidth let you bring forward detail or add a broader lift, while High Cut provides a separate way to soften the top end.

The sections operate independently and can be combined. Boost and cut together to shape a contour that a single control cannot create, or make small, deliberate adjustments across the spectrum.

Made for stereo work

Make a move. Recall it exactly.

One set of controls adjusts both channels simultaneously, so a stereo change does not mean matching two separate panels. One-decibel EQ increments and switched input trim give you a practical way to document a setting and recreate it for a revision.

True hard-wire bypass makes it easy to compare the processed signal with the original as you refine the balance.

Inside the red chassis

Passive equalisation. Valve amplification.

Custom inductors and capacitors perform the frequency shaping, supported by eight 6072A valves in Class-A amplifier stages. Custom transformers couple the input and output, with the output designed to feed modern bridging line inputs.

Each VT-5M is hand-built and individually tested. It is an analogue processor for engineers who want repeatable control and the distinctive Fearn approach to tone at the centre of their workflow.
