PBR XSplit8 provides eight microphone inputs, eight direct outputs and eight transformer-isolated outputs. It is useful when a live recording rig and a front-of-house system need to receive the same microphones, or when two separate recording paths need access to one set of sources.

Separate the two destinations

The isolated outputs use transformers to separate that feed electrically from the direct path. Ground-lift switching helps address grounding issues in a connected system. This makes the unit a more considered solution than simply joining two input cables together, particularly when the destinations have different power and grounding arrangements.

Plan phantom power correctly

Phantom power passes through the direct path only. Connect the preamp responsible for powering compatible condenser microphones to that direct output, and use the isolated feed for the second destination. Establish that responsibility before the session so that powering and routing remain clear.

Passive and ready for the rack

PBR XSplit8 operates passively and occupies 1U. It is a practical addition to a location recording rack, a venue installation or a studio that regularly splits microphone signals. Use suitable microphone cables and check levels at both receiving systems, as each destination retains its own preamp and gain settings.
