Black Lion Audio Level-Loc

A deliberately characterful compressor and saturator, developed by Black Lion Audio with Shure.

Turn dynamics into texture

Level-Loc revisits a device whose appeal goes well beyond transparent level control. It is intended for sounds that benefit from audible compression, density and saturation: a drum room that needs more excitement, a vocal effect that should stand forward, or an instrument layer that needs a rougher edge.

Set the intensity, then blend

The Distance control changes the compression threshold, making it a central part of finding how strongly the circuit reacts. The wet/dry blend allows heavily treated audio to sit alongside the original signal. You can create a pronounced effect, then bring back enough clean sound to retain definition and the initial performance shape.

Useful at recording and mixing stages

Microphone and line input support allows Level-Loc to work with a microphone or with a suitable signal sent from an existing recording system. Phantom power is available for compatible microphones, while XLR and TRS outputs provide practical integration options. Set gain and input configuration for the source you are using.

A creative choice in the signal chain

Level-Loc is especially useful when you want processing to be part of the sound’s identity. Try it on a parallel drum path, an individual instrument or a deliberately effected vocal, and judge the result in the arrangement. Its direct controls encourage experimentation while the blend makes it easier to keep that character under control.
