Auteur MKIII combines a responsive modern input stage with Cinemag output transformers. The approach is useful when you want the articulation of the source to remain clear but also want the option of a more substantial analogue character. It can cover a vocal microphone one day, a stereo instrument the next, and a pair of drum microphones when the session calls for it.

Microphones, instruments and line sources

Both channels support microphone, line and instrument use. This makes the unit more than an extra pair of microphone inputs: a keyboard or other line-level source can also pass through the Auteur circuitry, while the instrument input option provides a direct recording route for guitar or bass. Match the input mode and level to the source before setting gain.

The controls a session needs

Phantom power supports microphones that require it, and the switchable 10 dB pads help with hotter sources. Balanced TRS outputs connect to suitable line inputs on an interface, converter or mixer. Using a dedicated preamp into a line input gives you a clear way to manage the gain structure across both devices.

Desktop or recording rack

The compact two-channel format works well in a smaller studio, and removable rack ears provide another installation option. An external 24 V AC supply powers the unit. Auteur MKIII is an adaptable front end for someone who wants a recognisable analogue preamp character without dedicating the entire setup to one instrument or recording style.
