The Black Box Analog Design MM-1 is a single-channel valve microphone preamplifier designed to provide more tonal control than a conventional fixed-voicing preamp. Independently driven pentode and triode stages can be balanced to alter harmonic structure, transient behaviour and frequency response before any separate EQ is used.

Custom transformers, switchable input impedance, a five-position response control and the HG-2-derived Air circuit make it suitable for microphones and sources that benefit from controllable valve colour as well as straightforward gain.
