Media Composer Ultimate is professional nonlinear video editing software for film, television, documentary and other demanding editorial work. It provides a structured environment for managing source material, assembling sequences and refining a cut. The emphasis on bins, metadata and precise timeline editing makes it useful when a project contains substantial footage or continues through many rounds of revisions.

Organise material and shape the story

Keep clips and sequences organised so that the right material remains accessible as a production develops. Source and record views support deliberate editorial decisions, while trimming tools let an editor refine the relationship between neighbouring shots. Working with proxies can help make an editorial system more responsive when the original media is demanding, with a planned finishing workflow maintaining the connection to higher-quality sources. Reliable organisation becomes particularly valuable when several versions of a sequence need to be compared.

Editorial detail and collaboration

Ultimate adds facilities for more advanced professional workflows, including the ability to work with shared projects on compatible Avid NEXIS storage. Storage, associated services and any required hardware remain separate purchases. Audio editing, effects and colour tools allow a sequence to communicate its intention during editorial, while the wider Avid workflow supports handover to specialist sound and finishing systems. The exact feature set and supported media formats depend on the installed software release.

• New perpetual licence: A new perpetual licence. The core software licence does not expire. Future releases, subscription extras and support depend on the update/support entitlement included with the licence.
• New 1-year subscription: A new subscription providing 12 months of software access, paid upfront. Continued use after the term requires a further subscription. It is not a renewal of an existing licence or a monthly payment arrangement with SX Pro.
• 1-year subscription renewal: For an eligible existing reseller-purchased subscription to this same product and edition. Subscriptions bought directly from avid.com cannot use this reseller renewal code. Redeem within Avid’s renewal window; its current guidance allows a 14-day grace period after expiry. This does not renew a perpetual licence’s update plan.

Education licences, team licences, perpetual upgrades/update plans and crossgrades have separate listings with their own qualifying requirements.

Digital supply begins only with your express consent. Once supply begins, the statutory cooling-off right is lost; rights relating to faulty or misdescribed digital content remain.

Compatibility and delivery

Before installation, check the manufacturer’s current compatibility information for the software release you intend to use, including the operating system, processor, memory and any connected equipment. Compatibility with a particular computer or plug-in cannot be inferred from the product name alone. Keep a record of the registered entitlement and use the same account when managing subsequent updates or renewals.

Digitally delivered software licence. No physical box, computer, audio interface, storage system or other hardware is supplied. Register and activate the software using the manufacturer’s supplied instructions. An Avid account is used for Avid product redemption; Neuratron products also follow their applicable registration process.
