The API 5500 places two channels of 550-style four-band equalisation in a rackmount unit. It is well suited to stereo buses, mastering chains and individual sources, with switched frequencies, proportional-Q curves and selectable gain ranges for both broad musical shaping and precise adjustment.

The controls are laid out for fast, repeatable tonal decisions during tracking or mixing, with enough range for both subtle balance changes and more deliberate shaping.
