The API 525 is a classic feedback compressor/limiter that brings the firm, musical dynamics control associated with API consoles into a single 500 Series slot. Its stepped attack and release choices, switchable compression/limiting ratios and de-ess mode make it useful for vocals, drums, bass and mix-bus duties where character and repeatability matter.

It can be used for controlled level management or more audible movement and character, depending on the source and chosen settings.
