Product overview

The AEA R88A is the active version of the R88 stereo big-ribbon microphone, combining two figure-8 elements at 90 degrees for Blumlein or Mid-Side recording. Phantom-powered electronics add output and isolate the ribbons from preamp impedance, making its spacious, coherent stereo capture easier to use across modern recording systems.

Its ribbon transducer is intended to capture transients and upper frequencies smoothly, making it a useful alternative to condenser microphones on sources that can otherwise become hard or overly bright.
