It brings the B173 approach to sessions where several sources need the same preamp family, whether you are capturing a small ensemble, selected drum microphones or a collection of overdubs with a coherent tonal foundation.

Gain staging as a creative control

Stepped input gain works alongside dedicated output adjustment on each channel. This allows you to change how hard the preamp is driven while keeping the next device within its intended operating range. For a useful comparison, match the outgoing level as you explore cleaner settings and more pronounced transformer character.

Flexible analogue connections

Rear XLR microphone inputs handle the core recording duties, while front DI inputs on channels 1 and 2 support direct instruments. XLR and TRS outputs give you options for connection to a patchbay, mixer or converter. The result is a practical front end for a studio that regularly moves between microphones and electronic instruments.

Designed for the recording rack

The 2U layout keeps four channels of controls accessible rather than burying every adjustment in software. It is well suited to engineers who want to establish a sound before conversion and preserve that decision through the rest of the session. Pair it with suitable line-level inputs and set the gain structure across both pieces of equipment deliberately.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1008/1216/1407/files/black-lion-audio-b173-quad-b173-quad-front-2560.png?v=1793278783
